Dr. Weber at a young age was taught by her parents to lead through hard work, service and example. Her elementary school principal would often tell the story of when she, at the tender age of 11 years walked into her office the morning of the first Student Government meeting after she was elected Student Body President, with a typed agenda that she needed copied. The principal was surprised and amused that at 11 years old Akilah was so prepared and ready to lead.
Dr. Weber’s commitment to lead through hard work, service and example continued as she grew up. After graduating from Gompers Secondary as class valedictorian and Student Body President, she earned her Bachelor of Science and Medical Degree by the age of 26. In her last year of her OB/GYN residency, she was elected the Chief Resident and offered one of only two fellowship positions in the United States for Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology. She is currently the Director of the Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology Division at Rady Children’s Hospital and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of OB/GYN at UCSD.
In addition to her medical work, Dr. Weber is active in her community. She recognizes that ensuring the health and education of our future generation is key to the growth and prosperity of our communities. Dr. Weber serves as a mentor, educates youth groups on making healthy life choices, and teaches STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) to underrepresented kids on the weekends. She is also involved in political and social life of La Mesa. She is an elected delegate for the 79th Assembly District, and serves as board member for La Mesa Conversations and the La Mesa-Foothills Democratic Club.
Dr. Weber’s greatest love is her family. In her words, she was “ blessed to be given amazing parents, the late Honorable Daniel Weber and Assemblywoman Dr. Shirley Weber”. She and her husband Dennis have two handsome, intelligent and very energetic boys named Kadir (age 6) and Jalil (age 4). They both attend school in La Mesa and are active in La Mesa little league, jiu jitsu, soccer, swimming and piano.
